My Project Vote Smart

MY OPINIONS

The following are some questions that various media outlets asked me.  I decided to post my answers here for my readers.

1. No one says the health care bill is perfect. How would you fix it?

ANSWER:

This bill is a disaster.  We are already so deeply in debt as a nation that we will never be able to pay for such a ridiculous plan.  The existing Medicare program is already TRILLIONS of dollars in debt.   Just wait until the cost of this new plan starts to hit everyone's pocketbook.  It is a wasteful and irresponsible plan.  Congress should have never passed it.  My fix would be a return to a Hill-Burton type program.  This would ensure coverage for all while avoiding fraud and undue tax burdens on the taxpayers.

2. How would you get people back to work in Nevada?

ANSWER:

The best way to spur high-paying job growth is to return manufacturing to the United States.  Our nation's manufacturing base has been outsourced to overseas locations.  We need to reverse this disastrous, greedy corporate business tactic.  Ending NAFTA would be a good start.  We need to fix not just Nevada, but the entire United States.

3. What is the best way for America to dig its way out of the deficit?

ANSWER:

The answer is simple.  We need to stop the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and we need to dissolve the Federal Reserve.  There is nothing "federal" about the Federal Reserve.  It is a PRIVATE banking cartel that has bled this nation dry.  The Federal Reserve is about as "federal" as Federal Express.  Dismantling the Fed and stopping the wars would be as close to an economic "reset" button as one could hope for.

Winston Churchill once said that nothing happens in politics by chance.  Well the same holds true in finance and economics.  A very wealthy few have the ability to manipulate the markets to suit their own selfish goals.  I do not believe in coincidence when it comes to global financial matters.  These global elites need to be exposed and held criminally responsible for their actions.  A true free market would not require much governmental oversight.  It is self-regulating.  But when powerful insiders criminally abuse the system, then the rest of us have chaos.  Dissolving the Federal Reserve and criminally prosecuting high-level financial manipulators would prevent future meltdowns.

4. Are the current paths the US are taking in Iraq and Afghanistan the right paths? Why?

ANSWER:

We cannot spread democracy at the point of a gun.  We need to lead by example, not by force.  Both wars should be ended and our troops brought home.

5. What national policies should be put in place to solidify Nevada's spot as a leader of clean energy?

ANSWER:

NONE!  One state should not receive special privileges above another.  We are ALL members of the United States.  If Nevada is resourceful, we will show the rest of the nation why we are the leader with respect to clean energy.  If Arizona, New Mexico, or Wyoming raise the bar then it is Nevada's challenge to set it even higher.  The proof should be in the pudding, so to speak.  Using legislation to ensure favoritism does not help our country, nor our state in the long run.

6. What should be the future of Yucca Mountain?

ANSWER:

Face it.  It's coming here whether we like it or not.  Other candidates can publicly oppose it to garner votes.  I prefer to use logic and reasoning to make decisions as opposed to simply parroting politically correct rhetoric.  I've toured Yucca Mountain several times.  Before becoming a physics instructor I worked as a field geologist.  Besides mathematics and physics, I also hold a degree in geology.  I know the structural and geomorphological concerns with respect to Yucca Mountain.  My honest opinion is Nevada should accept it, but with many, MANY strings attached.  A safe repository can be constructed at Yucca Mountain.  If we agree to this, then we call the shots.  We hold the upper hand to negotiate lucrative deals with both governmental and private entities.

Do any of you remember when the Nevada Test Site closed down, or at least heavily downsized?  It was an economic disaster for southern Nevada.  The jobs and contracts that were lost as a result of the Test Site downsizing had economic ramifications which are still being felt to this day.  Well with Yucca Mountain we have the potential of creating literally thousands of high-paying jobs.  It could be an economic boon for our state because we hold the upper hand in negotiations with the federal government.  We could demand provisions for preferential hiring of Nevadans, large-dollar grants to the university system, improved roadways for transportation of material, and countless other perks for Nevada. I believe the timing is perfect for Nevada to demand very fruitful compensation for accepting the repository.

7. What should be the federal government's direction on immigration reform?

ANSWER:

Anyone who illegally enters the United States has committed a criminal act.  They should be deported, not rewarded with citizenship.  DHS needs to get serious about tracking down and deporting those who have illegally entered our country.  What we need to do as a nation is address the poverty and lack of opportunity in Latin America.  I propose that we end the war in Iraq to free up resources that may then be used to help our neighbors to the south.  I would much rather spend taxpayer monies to help improve the economy and living conditions in Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean.  Holding employers and landlords criminally responsible for employing or providing housing for illegal immigrants would solve this problem in short order.
